H. Creative activities extension (one hour or more)

This is a lobbies/party game with widely different political opinions and it can be as noisy as you want in the final presentations, which are all live.

Use the political outlines below, supplemented with information to be found in the Section on Dilemmas. Prepare the suggested programmes or add your own ideas. If you have equipment and more time you can video-record them.

1. Labour Party

Believes in pluralistic state, socialist values, non-coercion on religious issues, territorial compromise.

CREATE A TWO-MINUTE PARTY BROADCAST/PR SPOT ABOUT MAINTAINING THE STATUS QUO IN THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE AND PARTICULARLY THE LAW OF RETURN.

2. Likud (Herut, Liberals, other partners)

Non-socialist, territorially centre-right party, some militaristic, believes in liberal, privatized economy, nationalistic.

CREATE A SANDWICH BOARD WITH THE MOST IMPORTANT POINTS OF THE DECLARATION AND STAGE A HYDE PARK SCENE WITH SANDWICH BOARD SPEAKER, SUPPORTERS AND A HECKLER.

3. Hadash

"New" Israel Communist party with Arab MKs. Marxist; emphasizes need to promote rights of Arab citizens of Israel; secular.

CREATE A DEMO WITH A COUPLE OF SIGNS AND SLOGANS YOU CAN MARCH TO, EXPRESSING YOUR REACTIONS TO THE DECLARATION.

4. NRP - Mafdal

Modern nationalist Zionists, moderates, some socialist, all pluralistic, emphasizes need to promote Jewish character of State.

CREATE AND SING A SONG TO A HASSIDIC TUNE ABOUT THE KIND OF ISRAEL YOU BELIEVE IN.

5. Meretz

Left wing coalitions split from Labour Movement. Oppose religious "coercion", act as human rights lobby and want a secular state.

PREPARE A RADIO INTERVIEW WITH "JINGLES", ONE FOR THE BEGINNING AND ONE FOR THE END.

6. Agudat Yisrael

Believe that a true state of Israel will only come with the Messiah and that the foundations can and must be laid through a return to Torah Judaism.

WRITE A POLITICAL FLYER AND MAKE A POSTER. PHOTOCOPY THE FLYER AND HAND IT OUT.
