Seminar in Tbilisi

Employees of The Jewish Agency for Israel and the World Zionist Organization were excited to meet the young Jews in Tbilisi, Georgia who are revitalizing their community with Zionist programs. Jewish Agency staff visited Tbilisi to experience Jewish Agency programs in the region.

Four hundred and fifty staff members of the The Jewish Agency for Israel and the World Zionist Organization are participating in an educational seminar in Georgia (a country in the former Soviet Union), for the purpose of seeing Jewish Agency programs in the Caucasus region up close.

The trip was an initiative of The Jewish Agency’s Worker’s Organization, which regularly offers seminars in Israel and abroad. Three are planned for 2019.

The head of The Jewish Agency’s delegation to the Southern Caucasus region (Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan), Avi Ofir, introduced the group to the organization’s activities there and explained the successes and challenges being experienced by the delegation.
The seminar participants visited one of the educational institutions run by The Jewish Agency in Tbilisi, and enjoyed joint activities with participants in Hebrew language programs, Sunday School children and members of the Jewish Youth and Students Club.
“It was very exciting for everyone involved to meet,” Ofir said. “You could see it in everyone’s eyes. It’s amazing to build connections between Jewish Agency employees from Israel and those working locally. After one of the activities everyone broke out into song and dance, and took pictures together in front of our signs calling for the end of the wave of anti-Semitism worldwide.”
“The seminar participants are obviously even more proud of the work the organization does,” he continued. “For many it was a good sense of closure, seeing with their own eyes how their work in Israel comes to life in the field.”

The head of the Workers’ Organization, Chanan Mor, said “When the staff learned about the activities here of the local Shaliach (emissary) many got tears in their eyes. It has been very emotional.”
