Since 1994, three Michigan communities, Metropolitan Detroit, Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids, have partnered with three municipalities in Israel, Migdal HaEmek, Nazareth Illit and the Jezreel Valley, located in a region referred to as the Central Galilee.

Today, the Partnership builds significant opportunities and sustains long-lasting, people-to-people relationships through a variety of collaborative programs and shared resources strengthening both communities.

Addressing needs and building a vibrant Jewish future are the program’s primary areas of focus. One example, the English program, reaches over 4,000 students in 32 schools throughout the region. Supporting English language instruction provides tools the students need in order to succeed in Israeli society.

Over many years, the Michigan communities and Central Galilee counterparts have become more than partners. They are inspired to connect the next generation. Two communities, one family, one future.

“Being a Partnership volunteer opened my eyes to the everyday lives of being Israeli in the Central Galilee and helped shape how I feel about my Jewish life here in Michigan,” says Joanne Aronovitz.” It has been the most fulfilling experience that I have had in our community.”

P2G and Federation’s other dynamic Israel & Overseas programs are made possible through support for the Annual Campaign. A donation to the Annual Campaign helps Federation fulfill its mission of taking care of the needs of the Jewish community and building a vibrant Jewish future.

The region is composed of diverse populations, with differing needs, bonded to distinct service centers, making it a complex area for formulating development strategy.
