STEM- High Schools

The Science Leadership Program combines science study with promoting social leadership by providing a firm basis for many young people to study Science, Physics and Astronomy at the same time as fostering personal and social growth. Highly motivated and successful students from 10th-13th grade lead activities in different Science subjects combined with social and experiential tasks for children in grade school. STEM program in Eilat-Eilot is aiming to increase the number of students that major in science and technology and to improve their educational achievements. The goal is to help them have a high quality matriculation certificate that will allow them to integrate in the jobs market of tomorrow. In the end of the program the students are submitting a research paper, that was prepared with the help of researchers from the Ilan Ramon Center in Ben Gurion University. The center provides access to labs and professional guidance in varied subjects for students in different age groups. The activity is focused on experiential learning and scientific practice. Noa Cohen, 12th grade student from Rabin High school Eilat, shares her experience: "the work process on the research paper helped me in many aspects, whether in developing self-responsibility for a work that is "extra" and by choice and not one that school made me do and whether in researching a subject that I never met before and having to deal with academic essays; preforming experiments in a lab and to actually work with a researcher who is a professor- an incredible opportunity. The work exposed me to the academic world and helped me to know what are my aspirations in the world of science and research. Of course that finally the end result of it other than majoring in another subject is the biggest sense of pride over the whole process.
