Avy Lugassy Member of the Board of Governors

Avy Lugassy was born in 1962 in Kiryat Gat. When he was fifteen, he moved with his parents to Geneva, where his father became the first Keren Hayesod emissary to French-speaking Switzerland.
He returned to Israel in 1982 for his military service and enlisted in the navy. He was assigned to a missile boat at the Ashdod Naval Base. In 1985, he was named the best sailor on all the missile boats at the naval base.
After completing his military duty, Avy studied law at Geneva University, where he was active in the Jewish Students Organization and in Maccabi Geneva.
After receiving his law degree in 1989, he began working at the de Picciotto family’s private banking firm, UBP. In 2000, he moved to Atlas Capital SA run by the Dwek family, where he remained until 2013. Since 2013, he has worked at the Hyposwiss Private Bank, owned by the Lawi family.
In 1989, Avy became active in Keren Hayesod’s Young Leadership division. Four years later,he was elected Young Leadership President, and also joined the Keren Hayesod General Campaign committee. Since 2015, he has served as President of the Keren Hayesod Geneva campaign.
“I had guilt feelings about not living in Israel”, says Avy, “and felt that I have to do something for my country, even from abroad. People who live in Israel have duties and obligations that Jews abroad don’t have. Israel is the country I love most, where my roots lie. In Keren Hayesod, I found the best organization through which to help Israeli society”. He has been a member of the Keren Hayesod family for almost half of his life.
Avy’s oldest Brother, Ami, passed away on October 2009 at the age of 54. To perpetuate his memory, Avy financed the Children’s Rehabilitation Center at the Dana Dwek Children’s Hospital.
Avy is married to Marcella and is the father of three children: Marc, David and Alexia.

He is a Board member since July 2019.
