Holocaust Restitution Resolution

WHEREAS, based upon a presentation of Ofra Ross, Head of the Holocaust Survivors' Authority, at a meeting of the Holocaust Restitution Committee of the Board of Governors on June 25, 2017, JAFI appreciates that the State of Israel recognizes its responsibility to ensure that services are provided to needy Holocaust survivors so that they may live out their remaining years in dignity; and,
WHEREAS, in fulfilling this responsibility, the Government of Israel has provided such services through various ministries; and,
WHEREAS, Hashava  was created by the Government of Israel as an entity charged with distributing "restitution" funds in addition to funds otherwise provided to Holocaust survivors; and,
WHEREAS, Hashava's services are scheduled to be terminated as of December 31, 2017, and,
WHEREAS, funds currently in Hashava accounts and additional funds to be received by December 31, 2017, are expected to remain in Hashava's accounts as of the date of its termination.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Jewish Agency for Israel requests that the Government of Israel continue to earmark and apply "restitution" funds to needy Holocaust survivors, in addition to continuing to provide all necessary ongoing services which will allow such survivors to continue to live in dignity.
