Aaron Slavin, a board member of the Jewish Federation of Pinellas and Pasco Counties, recently spent a memorable week in Israel, capping off his participation in a leadership program designed to strengthen ties between the local Jewish community and Israelis.
A key takeaway from the trip was that “the American and Israeli delegations had much in common,” Slavin said. “Despite our different living situations and/or the way that we ‘do Jewish.’ There are many common threads that tie the American and Israeli Jewish experience together. This program allowed each of us to bridge the gap and build valuable and meaningful relationships. For that alone, I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to participate.”
Slavin and other Americans from a group of 10 Jewish Federations in Southeastern states, toured the country, including some of its most iconic sites, and spent time interacting with current and prospective leaders from the Hadera-Eiron region of Israel. That region has a sister-city like pact with 10 Federations from the Southeast, including the Pinellas/Pasco one.
