6 Million Steps to Holocaust Awareness
Nesher | Broward County

On Sunday, April 2, 2017 both Broward County, Florida and Nesher, Israel gathered for the annual Six Million Step Walk. This was the third annual Broward walk and the first for their Partnership community of Nesher. The goal of the walk is to raise holocaust awareness in both communities while honoring holocaust survivors. Each participant counted their steps with the goal of six million steps together. In Nesher, the event started with a special blessing from Mayor Mr. Avi Bnamo honoring three holocaust survivors who participated in the walk with youth groups, students, young adults and families. Israeli educators from the recent School Twinning Delegation also participated and represented the Israeli schools during the walk in Broward County.

Leadership2Gether seeks to establish strong friendships while developing leadership skills.

Magic Moments
Northern Galilee | Great Britain

The 2016-17 Magic Moments Program began in September with 6 carefully selected counselors and 38 students from the Northern Galilee. The group participated in a series of sessions to prepare them for a delegation to Great Britain, these included plans for Yom Ha'zikaron and Yom Ha'atzmaut events, Israeli-focused activities and discussions on multiculturalism. They also worked on information stations dealing with events that have taken place along the Northern Road, the importance of settling the Galilee, and attended workshops with visiting UK representatives on the subjects of British Jewry, hasbara (anti-Israel propaganda), and Jewish identity. For pre-delegation practice, dress rehearsals were held with the students' parents, program alumni from previous years, council heads, education department managers along with others.

On arrival in England the participants attended a seminar then divided into groups to visit various locations in London and Manchester. All enjoyed home hospitality, visited community centers, schools and youth movements to facilitate Israel activities. One of the main highlights was the 6 Yom Ha'zikaron memorial ceremonies with hundreds in attendance. The students skillfully conveyed the special and unique emotions of this important day to the British community.

In a few months they will close the program with an event titled Bishvilam (for the sake of) held in memory of IDF soldiers who fell during the Second Lebanon War. There, the delegation will facilitate workshops for 300 participants, including bereaved families, IDF soldiers and residents of the Galilee and will lead an official ceremony on Mount Adir. To wrap-up their meaningful program, the Magic Moments group will have a festive party with all the participants and parents.

They visited 13 projects supported by the Federation and the Partnership, and volunteered in hands-on activities together with the local community in gardens and on artistic murals in the old city.
