We have now examined the story of the local community in many of its aspects. Although the examination has been only partial, the students should now have a much better grasp of the community’s dynamics and the institutions that create the community and serve those dynamics. Furthermore, the students have been asked consistently to develop opinions regarding each particular aspect of community life under discussion. They should now be able to summarize their opinions of their community (and the general subject of community), and define (or, at least, start to define) their own commitment to the community. We suggest writing a questionnaire to examine the attitudes of the students as individuals and the class as a group.

Activity

Summing it All Up

The aim of this activity is to push the students to formulate an opinion regarding the community and to assess the attitudes of the class as a group.
