Young Communities: Social Pioneers

Social Young communities The Jewish Agency for Israel ©
Groups of enthusiastic, idealistic Israelis live, work, and volunteer together in high-need areas in Israel, creating long-term, positive changes in local quality of life.

The Jewish Agency provides day-to-day guidance, program oversight, and program grants to Young Communities - groups of Israelis who settle in underprivileged neighborhoods and commit to creating sustainable improvements for the area’s future.

The Young Community “pioneers” are often employed during the day as individuals, and volunteer, usually as a group, in the evenings. The Jewish Agency also helps Young Communities build social-entrepreneurship enterprises that create jobs for themselves and others. Almost three-quarters of the members are involved in educational projects.

Together, the Young Community participants and their beneficiaries experience activism as a Jewish contribution in the sense of tikkun olam.
