Youth leadership training in crisis response

This proposed training program enables youth to actively deal with the unique challenges that arise during crises by emphasizing their potential significant contribution. During emergencies, adults are called for reserve military duty or are otherwise busy, working or helping others. The program is designed to train youth to utilize their abilities and channel their energy into volunteer roles in emergencies, assisting their communities to cope with crises as well as working in schools and community centers during routine times, supporting and encouraging community resilience building. In Israel, the education system often shuts down during emergencies. Many young people find themselves disconnected from their natural support system within the educational framework, at a time when they crave stability and support. The feeling of frustration and helplessness not only impairs the ability to cope but also increases the risk of developing emotional distress and post-traumatic symptoms.
