Young Employment and Entrepreneurship

The "small scale entrepreneurship" initiative is a social "startup" developed with the purpose of supplying rewarding employment for elders of the Ethiopian community in a variety of areas in which they have special expertise and traditional knowledge brought from Ethiopia. The initiative is also intended to expose the general public to the cultural wealth of this community. The plan is phase B of the community agricultural initiative that begun at 2009 with the substantial support of Partnership Together. The activities will take place mainly at the Atachlit farm, an experiential agricultural center for the preservation of Ethiopian Jewry legacy that resides in the Lachish research and development center on the outskirts of Kiryat Gat. In the program elders will be integrated as guides for visiting groups, lecturers and story tellers, mainly of their own life story and story of their travel to Israel, tutors of traditional Ethiopian cooking workshops, Ethiopian handicraft workshops and traditional mud huts (Gojo) construction workshops. They will perform these actions on the farm and in educational establishments in Kiryat Gat, being rewarded for their work.
