Emergency Volunteer Program

Following an in depth survey of the Jewish Community of Northern New Jersey, one of the key outcomes was the need to focus on "Safety and Security of Israel." After learning about the work of the "Emergency Response Program" the partnership decided to join hands with this organization and offer a unique training program for volunteers in the Jewish community to take part. Following a wide spread recruitment campaign, 40 participants were trained and certified as emergency volunteers, now ready to become first responders to an emergency in Israel. The volunteers were trained in three specific areas: Firefighting, medical response and community support. A professional and specialized training team travelled to Northern New Jersey from Israel and included an IDF major from the Home Front Command, a representative from the Israeli Fire Service, a terrorism and explosives expert, and a medical doctor from the Western Galilee Hospital in Nahariya (Dr. Moaad Faraj). The volunteers received official certification from the Israeli Government which will allow them to be mobilized and travel to Israel in times of need to assist during a national crisis (war, earthquake, etc.). In addition to the obvious outcome of training for emergency, the partnership and the federation now have a list of 40 volunteers who are dedicated to Israel and the Jewish community. In the near future a group of 30 trained volunteers will come from Northern New Jersey to Israel and Nahariya for further on the ground training.
