USA Jewish basketball player Dan Grunfeld, son of Washington Wizards General Manager Ernie Grunfeld, will immigrate to Israel on August 22, the Jewish Agency for Israel announced.

Grunfeld, 26, signed on with Bnei Hasharon team in Israel’s basketball super league in June and will begin playing in fall after formally immigrating to Israel next week, under the auspices of the Jewish Agency, Israel’s largest nonprofit which facilitates immigration of Jews around the world to Israel.

Grunfeld had several successful basketball seasons in Germany and Spain, after a successful college basketball career at Stanford University, from where he graduated in 2006. Grunfeld will move to Israel from his family home in Washington DC, where his father, renown basketball figure Ernie Grunfeld, is general manager of the Washington Wizards since 2003, following a decade as GM of the New York Knicks and several years with the Milwaukee Bucks.

The younger Grunfeld says he looks forward to starting his life in Israel; his fiancee is expected to join him in Israel in the coming months.
