Statement by Natan Sharansky, Chairman of The Jewish Agency, on antisemitism in Germany
Jerusalem, Israel - Natan Sharansky, Chairman of The Jewish Agency, made the following statement on antisemitism in Germany:
Recent developments in Germany, following the latest elections, have raised questions regarding a possible reevaluation of Germany’s 20th century past. I am deeply concerned by a certain discourse which has gained traction in some circles during the electoral campaign and its aftermath, since it indicates a will to revisit and rewrite Germany’s role and responsibilities in World War 2 and the Holocaust. The Federal Republic of Germany has, in the post-War era, courageously confronted its past and engaged in honest soul searching. There is an urgent need now to remain vigilant against attempts to legitimize anti-Semitic and xenophobic ideas through parliamentary platforms.
