Summer Camp Israeli Youth Counselors

Since 2014, Partnership2Gether Sha'ar Hanegev has sent 11th grade graduates (with two years under their belts as local youth counselors) to serve as counselors at summer camps affiliated with the San Diego Jewish community. The group will arrive in San Diego at the beginning of July and branch out into three or four day camps in the city. The Sha'ar Hanegev teens will join each camp's permanent staff, prepare and deliver activities on an Israeli theme, and take active part in each camp's Israel Day. After their stint as camp counselors, the teens will stay with host families in the community, spending evenings and weekends with them. Three weeks later the teens return to Israel. However the impression they leave at the camps will remain long after. This year, 2018, and for the first time, alumni from the program will travel to San Diego to work in the framework of the Israeli Year of Service program. We view this as a direct continuation of their experiences after the 12th grade and a decision to subsequently remain involved and active.
