Yom Ha'atzmaut Musical Challenge

1. Introduction

Welcome to our community programming ideas for small community groups (25-50 people) in Jewish schools, youth organizations and informal settings. We bring you below parallel instructions in Hebrew and English for both the Challenge Assignments and the Trivia, so that you can create your own programme - and, of course, adapt them to your own needs.

NB: You will probably need to create a number of Powerpoints to present the song texts, which you can find in our new Israeli Song Finder on the Yom Ha'atzmaut page. For example, you can make slides for the songs related to the Team Names in the "white envelopes" and the songs in the "blue envelopes", as well as those for the Singalong. We strongly recommend that you make each series of slides in a separate file, so that you don't give answers away ahead of time.
It would also help a lot to have participants bring their musical instruments to accompany the songs and lead the Shira Betzibur [Singalong].
On the answer sheets you will also find the missing information for your group challenge preparations: what you need to write in the "white envelopes".

With thanks to: Naomi Goldberger, Shalhevet Laloum [Sherut Leumi] and Hannah Lehmann [Siah Yitzhak] for arranging the questions, and once more to Hannah - for helping me try out the programme!

Behatzlacha and Chag Sameach!

Gila Ansell Brauner,
