Resolution from the Unity of the Jewish People Committee
Whereas the Jewish Agency has stood for the principle of Jewish Unity, for decades; and
Whereas the Jewish Agency continues to support the need for Jewish religious pluralism within the State of Israel; and
Whereas almost five (5) years ago Prime Minister Netanyahu boldly asked Jewish Agency Chairman Natan Sharansky to convene the pluralistic movements of worldwide Jewry to address the challenges of pluralistic prayer at the Kotel; and
Whereas that convening resulted in successful negotiations with the Government of Israel concluding late fall 2015 with the Advisory Team for the issue of Prayer at the Western Wall, including an amendment to the Regulations for the Protection of Holy Places to the Jews; and
Whereas January 31, 2016 the government of Israel accepted and approved these recommendation and regulations by a vote of 15:5; and
Whereas the implementation of these recommendations and regulations have stalled and remain unimplemented to this day causing tension and profound disappointment of world Jewry around the Kotel; and
And whereas we fear that the ongoing failure to implement the Kotel agreement will widen the gap of division of the Jewish people;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Jewish Agency requests its Chairman of the Executive, Natan Sharansky, its Chairman of the Board, Charles Ratner and the Board of Governors to communicate to the Prime Minister, cabinet members and members of Knesset, that the recommendations agreed upon be implemented.
